The World Bead Trade
The trade in beads and bead materials is of great antiquity. Initially, it was local, reaching only a few hundred kms or miles. In time, large regions were involved. Eventually, it became global. Stretching around one or the other hemispheres and then across the globe when the Western Hemisphere was in contact with the Eastern.
This section examines large-scale trading networks. We begin with the long-lived and lively trade in the
